1.
How old do I have to be to get a tattoo?
You must be at least 18. Government issue photo id is required.
If you are 17, you may do so with parental permission, which requires
your parent, a release form, and a notary.
No, your brother/sister/best friend cannot sign for you.
2.
Does it hurt?
Hell yes....just kidding. The sensation is most often referred to as being more
"annoying" than "painful". Some places are more sensitive than
others.
If you are particularly squeamish, be assured that your artist will
assist you minimizing any given discomfort you may experience.
3.
Is it safe?
Yes, in a reputable shop. At Bridgeport Tattoo, we practice
Universal Methods of Precaution, which are the same high standards used
by hospitals
to prevent cross-contamination. It's all single-serving sterility.
4.
Are there any medical conditions that may complicate the process?
Diabetics and folks with poor circulation may experience difficulty in
healing a tattoo, as well as anyone who has a history of keloid scarring or
psoriasis. Check with your doctor/dermatologist before getting tattooed.
5.
What about allergic reactions?
A very rare complication is "red reaction",
which consists of swelling and itching in the red part of a tattoo.
It is mostly a minor annoyance, though more severe cases require treatment
by a dermatologist. Chances of developing "red reaction" are approximately
one in a million.
6.
How can I be sure of getting a good tattoo?
Reptuatuion, for one thing. Not all artists are created equally; check the
artists portfolio, and ask questions. Be wary of shopping for the lowest
price. The bitter taste of poor quality far outlasts the sweet taste of a
cheap price. You get what you pay for.
7.
Will the colors fade?
Follow the aftercare instructions you receive
and stay out of the sun. If you must spend time in the sun, a good
sunblock can help protect the color. If you're an avid sun worshipper,
consider black and grey work, as it holds up better than color.
8.
Is it okay to drink alcohol before getting tattooed?
Did I mention people taking blood thinners should not get tattooed?
Alcohol thins the blood and brings out the more annoying aspects of
one's personality, as well as impairing judgment. The last thing
an artist wants to deal with is a bleeding idiot.
9.
Can I bring my own design?
So long as it's bigger than a postage stamp.
Bring in any design or idea you may have; we enjoy doing custom work.
Keep in mind that the bigger the design, the better it will hold up in your
skin over time.
10.
I've heard Danny Williams is rude; is this true?
I've heard people can be idiots. He treats them accordingly.
Otherwise, he's one big ray of sunshine;)
